Our Story
Meet the Board
Youth-led organization driven by a passion for music, aiming to support the community through music therapy.

YURRISA - FOUNDER/PRESIDENT
"Music has been my life and my leg since the very beginning. In the first grade, I remember fondly of a day where I had been upset and my teacher wanted to find a way to lift my spirits. She settled on playing a song called "Happy" by Pharrell Williams, and made the entire class dance to cheer me up. That was the first time I realized the power of connecting with people through music. After that day, I joined my elementary school chorus and eventually my middle school choir, where my passion for music continued to grow immensely day by day. Expressing myself through singing has allowed me to dig deeper in uncovering what truly makes me the person that I am. Music is something that has blossomed throughout history and in which many of us rely on to get through various aspects of life. Whether it be a need for relief for an upcoming exam, a melody to accompany us through the loss of a loved one, or a specific track that sparks a wave of nostalgia, music has proven to hold endless capabilities. I started this organization in November of 2024 to share my passion for music with my community through efforts of music therapy, where I believe something as simple as singing a person's favorite song or any joyful melody in general can make a drastic impact on their life. Thru Soundwaves strives to make a positive impact on the recovery of children in hospitals and the happiness of elders in nursing homes through encouraging musical performances and activities."
FABIOLA - VICE PRESIDENT
"I first began playing the violin at three years old when I lived in Venezuela. I don't remember what drew me to it, or why I decided to start, but I do remember feeling a deep connection to the instrument. Even after my move to the US, I continued to hone my skills and my love for the violin. It was all I did and all I wanted to do: I participated in music summer camps, joined the school orchestra, had private lessons, played for my family. I may not have been the best player in the world, but I know I was one of the most motivated ones. I looked for every opportunity to play, even performing at a Christmas event at my church. When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, I stopped playing it, having lost my motivation. But slowly, I returned to the instrument, wanting to put as much care into it as I had before. Now, I want to use my skills to help bring happiness to people; I truly believe in the calming power of music, and how it can get anyone through a bad day. When Yurrisa told me about her idea to start Thru Soundwaves, I immediately signed on, eager to begin."
